The"66 Birds/3 Degrees” project combines the visuals of Natalie Niblack's magnificent paintings and audio of our region’s birds to form an environment of birds that are at risk if global warming is not mitigated. Natalie conceived this project after seeing Audubon’s "Survival By Degrees: 389 Bird Species on the Brink", a study that assesses the impact of climate warming at up to 3 degrees on North American bird species.
Natalie has designed this exhibit so that the viewer is confronted by the direct gaze of each bird while listening to their songs, and reading about their history or present status. Her exhibit is intended as an informed warning of what is at risk, not as a statement of what will be. The “morning chorus” bird recordings contrast with the silent void of a world without the music of the natural world.
