Each winter, Seattle joins thousands of communities across North America in the Christmas Bird Count (CBC) — the longest-running community science survey on the continent. For more than 95 years, Birds Connect Seattle has coordinated our local count, mobilizing hundreds of volunteers to cover the 15-mile Seattle count circle and document every wild bird they can find. Their data becomes part of a nationwide effort that informs major research on wintering bird populations, including studies like the 3 Billion Birds report.
The 2025 Seattle CBC takes place on Sunday, December 14, and anyone with an interest in birds is welcome to participate. You can join a team in the field for part or all of the day, or contribute from home by counting birds that visit your yard or feeder—both options support this important scientific project.
We’re excited to help Birds Connect Seattle recruit participants for this year’s count. Follow the link to learn more and register to be part of this historic effort.
