Nature journals can contain carefully composed pages and pictures, painted with true-to-life colors. But sketches from memory – in words or pictures - can capture the essence of something, or perhaps what that something means to you, far more truthfully than a carefully observed transcription at the time
From the old growth forest to the shoreline, Seward Park teems with flora and fauna in a delicately balanced ecosystem. In this nature journaling workshop series, artist Mary Ann Newton will guide us as we illustrate the language of nature and see wild places with new eyes. We'll learn to recognize the textures and colors of different native trees and their importance to our region.
Each workshop will allow participants to slow down, immerse themselves in beautiful outdoor locations and meet like-minded people. Detailed class notes for each workshop will provide a framework for interpreting the plants, animals, and ecosystem we will explore.
It’s up to you how sketchy or finished, how true-to-life or drawn-from-memory your nature journaling will be. Perhaps an eclectic mixture of many things and approaches, each reflecting your mood at the time?
Join Mary Ann and Seward Park Audubon Center in this workshop series and feel amazed at what you’ve created. That sentence or story or picture will be yours: your unique response to the world.
