Artist Hannah Salia created 'Above and Below' to celebrate the forest, its natural beauty, and its power in inspiring the human imagination. The remarkable symbiosis between the magnificent trees above and the intricate mycelial networks in the ground below is the theme of this new collection of paintings and mixed media artworks.
The amazing variety of the firs, cedars, and maples, and the way the light plays through them has provided infinite inspiration for Hannah's paintings, and more recently, she has become interested in the ways the fungal networks in the soil work in tandem with the trees and each other to share necessary resources. These interactive systems offer us a healthy model for interconnection, and they have offered new inspiration about how to articulate awe and joy in learning about these natural systems.
Please visit Seward Park Audubon Center's Garry Oak Gallery to explore Hannah's works of mixed media that include the imperfect gods and goddesses of Greek myth as inspiration and sample the odes she has created to enhance the connection between iconic myth and the natural world.
