Young Scientists
Our
flagship classroom and field trip program for area middle
and high schools, Young Scientists provides youth with ecology
and science education coupled with field investigations, citizen
science, and service learning field trip opportunities.
Each year we offer 5-10 Young Scientists
Projects for participating classes which take on one of these
major projects for the semester or school year. The program
begins with 1-3 in-class lessons outlining basic ecology and
biology as related to their topic, field procedures and studies,
background information, and any other information they need
or want for their projects. Classroom introductions are followed
by 1-6 field trips to Seward Park to complete field experiments,
studies, or restorations work. After each class has finished
their field studies, they again have 1-3 concluding classroom
visits from staff to help them write scientific papers about
their project.
Young Scientists is a partnership between
The Seward Park Audubon Center, teachers, and classrooms.
We recommend that you call us or meet with us to discuss your
class’s participation. Please contact the Education Director, Annie Morton, via
email
or by phone at 206-652-2444 ext 102. We look forward to speaking
with you about this exciting opportunity for your class!
