Schools and Seward Park

Outside In

When: Tuesday-Friday 8AM-3PM, 50-60 minutes per lesson
Size: 32 students or 1 class- teachers may register consecutive programs for more than one class
Time: 50-60 minutes per lesson
Cost: $60.00 for 1 program or $50.00 each for 2 or more programs (includes transportation fees for schools within 10 miles of the Center)

Let us come to you with one of our edutaining Outside In classroom science enrichment programs. During each Outside In program, a Seward Park Audubon Center naturalist visits your classroom and presents a special science and nature program. We bring all the materials and programs may include select live animals, skulls and bones, dissections, costumes, and other props.

Water Chemistry Testing
GLEs: 1.1.1, 1.1.3, 1.2.2, 1.2.3, 1.3.3, 2.1.1, 2.1.2, 2.2.1, 2.2.2, 2.2.3, 2.2.4, 3.1.1, 3.2.3, & 3.2.4

Students learn the basics of water chemistry and pollution and test for key parameters from a water sample from Lake Washington or other waterbody near your school.

Water Water Everywhere
GLEs: 1.1.3, 1.2.1, 1.3.4, 2.1.1, 2.2.1, 2.2.2, 3.2.1, 3.2.3, & 3.2.4

Students explore the key concepts of aquatic environmental science through a series of interactive lessons on the water cycle, water pollution, and their own water consumption.

Reptiles and Amphibians
GLEs: 1.2.7, 1.3.9, 2.2.1, 3.2.3, & 3.2.4

What is the difference between a reptile and amphibian? Students explore key concepts of morphology, anatomy, adaptation and classification through activities, games, and live education animals.

Trial of a Tree
GLEs: 1.2.1, 1.3.8, 1.3.9, 1.3.10, 2.1.1, 2.1.2, 2.2.1, 2.2.4, 3.2.1, 3.2.3, & 3.2.4

Environmental ethics, your students, and a mock-trial combine to develop critical and systems thinking skills during the trial of Terry the Tree. As stakeholders in their community park and through deductive reasoning and interactive role-playing, students decide if Terry is helpful or hazardous and if he/she should be cut down!

Owls and Osteology
GLEs: 1.1.6, 1.3.8, 1.3.9, 1.3.10, 2.2.1, 3.2.3, & 3.2.4

Learn about these keystone predators of the night through preserved specimens, predator prey games, and hands on activities. Students dissect owl pellets and reassemble the skeletal remains to learn about osteology and ecology.

Fees and Scholarships
Discounts are available for schools and are based on the percentage of free and reduced lunches or scholarships for your school as reported in school annual reports for the preceding school year. Private schools should contact us for discount information.

If you feel that your school needs additional discounts and scholarships, please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
